This great little award-winning Museum is aimed at 6 to 12 year-olds and their families and is situated in Roald Dahl’s home village of Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire.
The Museum has three fun and fact-packed interactive galleries, along with a craft room, café and shop. The hands-on exhibits and displays, including the interior of Roald Dahl’s actual Writing Hut, allow visitors to explore the ‘stories behind the stories’ – Roald Dahl’s real-life experiences which inspired the books.
The Story Centre gallery offers all sorts of fantabulous creative displays and activities to get involved with. – all aimed at sparking imaginations and enthusiasm for word play, stories and creative writing.
Sit in Roald Dahl’s Writing Chair, dress up as a Roald Dahl character, make your own stop-frame animation film, explore the cockpit of a WWII Gladiator like the one Roald Dahl flew and test your spark-factor on the Sparkometer.
In the school holidays and at weekends, an exciting range of workshops, events and free storytelling sessions take place. Free craft activities are always on offer. Pick up a Village or Countryside Trail around Great Missenden to see the places that inspired Roald Dahl and feature in the stories and come back to the Café for something scrumdiddlyumptious!

Nearest train station:
We recommend visitors travel to us by train! Great Missenden is served by a good train service direct from London Marylebone with two trains per hour. The journey takes 45 minutes and it’s a quick and easy walk from the station to the Museum. See the Chiltern Railways website for an up-to-date timetable and details of engineering works which may affect the line. Take advantage of the 2for1 ticket offer from Chiltern Railways.
The Museum is situated on the historic High Street of Great Missenden, so there is no on-site parking and there is limited parking in the village. Please allow plenty of time for your journey. There is a pay and display car park on Link Road, less than 5 minutes walk away at HP16 9AE. Visit the Chiltern District website for details about parking charges. Weekend visitors may use the station car park at HP16 9AZ. If parking anywhere else in the village, please park only in designated parking spaces and be aware of any time restrictions.
