- Hands-on science suitable for all ages and abilities
- Stunning rural location
- Unique historical site
The Observatory Science Centre, once the home of the world famous Royal Greenwich Observatory, is now a unique attraction bringing spectacular science to everyone. It has over 100 interactive exhibits, both indoors and out, as well as science shows and tours of the historic telescopes that are still housed in their distinctive green domes. The café serves food and drinks throughout the day and the gift shop offers a wide range of reasonably priced science and space themed gifts and souvenirs.
Throughout the year, during all the school holidays, a fantastic range of half and full day Children’s Workshops are offered on a pre-booked basis. These are fantastic fun, bringing science and creativity to life.
Regular Open Evenings give visitors the opportunity to view the night sky through some of the largest telescopes in the country (weather permitting). In addition, for those who want to take their stargazing interest further, there are a wide range of astronomy courses on offer together with Telescope Clinics and Night Sky Photography Workshops.
For those who prefer to toe-dip a new hobby or activity rather than committing to a full course, the annual Lifelong Learners Week offers the opportunity to participate in a range of talks and activities. Aimed primarily but certainly not exclusively at a more senior audience, each topic has different elements and some even include practical activities.
Full details of all special events and activities, including astronomy courses, Open Evenings and the annual Herstmonceux Astronomy Festival, can be found on the website.
