Summer Reading Challenge 2018

Things To Do

posted July 24th 2018

If you are looking at a way to encourage your grandchild to keep reading over the summer than why consider the Summer Reading Challenge?

Each year, the charity The Reading Agency and libraries across the country run the Summer Reading Challenge. Taking part over the school holidays the aim of the challenge is to support children aged 4 to 11 to read six books of their choosing from your local library.

Every year there’s a different theme, this year’s theme has been inspired by the Beano, which celebrates its 80th anniversary and is called Mischief Makers.

So if you think your grandchild will enjoy this all you need to do is go down to your local library and register – it’s completely free! When they register your grandchild will be given some fun materials to get them started and they can choose their first book. They can read any book they choose and if they are stuck on choosing a book then the Summer Reading Challenge website has lots of ideas with their Book Sorter – take a look.

Take a look at this great video explaining all about the challenge or visit you local library for more information.
